As the 1997 season began, Cal Ripken, Jr. had already broken Lou Gehrig’s historic consecutive games played streak and became baseball’s Iron Man. Ripken showed no signs of slowing down as he once again suited up for the Baltimore Orioles for every game in the 1997 season where he batted a solid .270 with 17 home runs and 84 RBI. Presented here is one of the practice used black mesh pullover Orioles jerseys worn by Ripken during the 1997 season. This jersey has two buttons at the top of the chest and features “Orioles” and a paraph sewn on the front in orange, black and white tackle twill. The AUTHENTIC DIAMOND COLLECTION and Majestic tags are sewn on the front left tail with a “48” size flag attached to the Majestic tag. The back has Ripken’s number “8” sewn on in orange, black and white tackle twill and the Majestic logo is embroidered on the end of the right sleeve. Ripken has signed this jersey in black marker on the end of the paraph on the front. This jersey displays moderate use with some thread pulls and softening of the tackle twill letters and numbers. This jersey comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal that will accompany this jersey.
