Few comedies stand the test of time as well as the work of "The Three Stooges." Getting their start in vaudeville during the 1920s, the comedic trio consisting of Stooges mainstays Moe Howard and Larry Fine featured six members throughout their 48-year run, being joined by Shemp Howard, Curly Howard, Joe Besser, and "Curly" Joe DeRita. The trio's physical farce and slapstick humor has delighted audiences since their 190 short subject films began airing continuously in 1958. Presented here is an 8 ½ x 11-inch script from the personal collection of Moe Howard from their "We Want Our Mummy" episode that aired on February 24, 1939. The episode featured the Stooges in Egypt after being hired as private detectives tasked with locating a missing Professor of Egyptology. The Stooges get into all sorts of hijinks when they mistake a mirage for an actual lake and dive in, finding themselves in desert tunnels where they encounter a real live mummy, find that thieves have kidnaped the professor. In Egypt, the professor searched for the mummy of Pharaoh Rootentooten and found out that the mummy they encountered was not him, but his wife, Queen Hotsy-Totsy. The professor holds up a miniature sarcophagus of the real Rootentooten, who turned out to be relatively diminutive in stature. The episode was the first to employ "Three Blind Mice" as the Stooges official theme song. The script features a green cover page labeled "COLUMBIA NO 443 1938 '39" in black on the top of the script. "EGYPTIAN PICTURE" is labeled on the center of the cover of the script in black. "FINAL OCTOBER 20 1938" appears on the bottom of the cover in black. "EGYPT" is written in pencil on the top of the script. The number "60" appears on the bottom right corner of the script in black. The script itself is typed and features some page detachment. The 32-page script is held together by two brass fasteners, and the pages feature elements of toning. The "Egyptian Picture" script from The Three Stooges comes from the Estate of Moe Howard.
