The San Francisco 49ers are one of the NFL's premiere franchises, winners of five Super Bowls, the first which occurred in 1982 in Super Bowl XVI. In this Super Bowl, the first in a northern climate city (Detroit), saw Joe Montana and the Niners jump out to a 20-0 halftime lead over the Cincinnati Bengals before holding on for a 26-21 victory. This ring was presented to former 49er player and (in 1981) front office executive, RC (Alley Oop) Owens, who is a member of the 49ers Ring of Honor. The crest features a football within a football motif, with 14 diamonds comprising the outer ball, with two diamonds bookending a large middle diamond. In raised relief appears "SAN FRANCISCO WORLD CHAMPIONS" on top and bottom. One shank has the name “OWENS” with the 49ERS helmet and the name "49ers" below. The other shank has a football over the Golden Gate Bridge with "Super Bowl XVI" and the score "26-21" below. Inside is engraved with “BALFOUR 10K”. This impressive 10K solid gold ring weighs just under 39 grams, and was a size 13. However, three gold ring balls were added, bringing the ring to a size 10.5. This ring was presented to San Francisco 49er executive (and former 49er player) RC Owens, and was obtained by our consignor directly from the Owens family, with the paperwork included with the ring. It is the same exact style and size ring the players received, and remains in Excellent condition. An incredible ring and collectible from the season that began the legend of Joe Montana.
