In 1985 the Villanova Wildcats shocked the sports world when they upset the No. 1 ranked Georgetown Hoyas, 66-64, to become National Champions. One of the players on that title team was freshman Veltra Dawson (#10), who appeared in 18 games that season. This was the ring presented to him after that game. It features a single diamond set inside a "V" and atop a blue stone, with smaller diamonds top and bottom. The words "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" appears on the perimeter with a diamond on either side. One shank has the name "DAWSON" with a large V which is engraved with "VILLANOVA". The words "FAMILY" and "THE BIG EAST" also appear. The other shank has the school name "VILLANOVA" across the top with an image of a church with the words "UNITY", "TRUTH" and "LOVE" engraved. Below is the term "BIG 5 CHAMPIONS" indicating this squad also won the Philadelphia city title. With the band of this 10K solid gold size 10.5/34 gram ring is the manufacturer name "JOSTENS 10K". Player rings are always the most desirable type, and this beauty is derived from one of the biggest upset wins in NCAA basketball tournament history. Excellent condition.
