When it comes to hitters, there was no one better than Hall of Fame Boston Red Sox left fielder Ted Williams. Williams was the last player in Major League Baseball history to record a batting average over .400, a feat he accomplished when he batted .406 in 1941. The 19-time All-Star selection was a two-time Triple Crown winner, a six-time AL batting champion, a four-time AL home run leader, and a four-time AL RBI leader during a career that saw Williams win two AL MVP Awards during a 19-year career twice interrupted by service to his country in World War II and the Korean War as a naval aviator. Williams retired in 1960 with a career batting average of .344, 521 home runs, and was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1966, his first year of eligibility.
