Coached by his father, former heavy weight champ Smokin Joe Frazier, Marvis Frazier had less than a dozen pro bouts before taking on Larry Holmes in 1983. With much hyperbole and TV coverage making the fight a media event, Marvis went into the fight with the confidence of a veteran. Only a minute into the first round, Marvis dropped his arms to his sides, goading on Holmes to hit him. The angered champ did so, knocking Frazier flat with a hard right. After an 8 count the youngster unsteadily got to his feet and was pounded by Holmes into a corner where the older man repeatedly asked the ref to end it. Finally, with seconds left on the clock the fight was stopped and Holmes awarded a TKO. This flashy robe/smock was worn by Marvis' corner men during that bout. The green with gold and black accented Victorian patterned silken jacket is trimmed in metallic gold cloth with a zippered front. Large pockets trimmed in the same metallic cloth are located on both sides. Everlast label is above the left pocket. "Dry Clean Only" and washed out size tagging is located inside the collar. The back boldly proclaims "Smokin Joe Inc" in gold metallic stitched script. Condition is very good with the colors on the green patterned body bright and bold with just a few loose threads on the trim. The gold metallic material used to trim the jacket has been washed out and much of the metallic coating is missing.
