Few teams dominated a major professional sport like the Cincinnati Reds teams during the 1970s. Nicknamed “The Big Red Machine,” the Reds teams during the 1970s won six National League West Division titles, four NL pennants, and two World Series titles. The teams averaged 95 wins a season between 1970 and 1979 and a collective record of 953 wins and 657 losses. The two consecutive World Series titles won by the Big Red Machine in 1975 and 1976 are the only back-to-back titles won by a NL team in Major League history. Presented in this lot are three signed Cincinnati Reds jerseys signed by three of the core members of Big Red Machine teams, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, and Johnny Bench.

The first item in this presented lot is a Cincinnati Reds jersey signed by all-time hits leader Pete Rose. Rose. Rose earned 17 All-Star selections at an unprecedented five positions and was a three-time World Series champion, winning two titles with the Big Red Machine in the 70s. Rose was named the MVP of the 1975 World Series and the 1973 NL MVP. The three-time NL batting champion’s 4,256 hits are an MLB record that still stands today. The presented jersey is white polyester with red and white stripes on the sleeves and collar. The classic Cincinnati Reds “C” logo with “REDS” in the center is featured on the chest in white and red tackle twill. The number “14” appears on the chest and back in red tackle twill. A Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Authentic Collection manufacturing tag appears on the jersey’s left front tail. A red and white patch is labeled “Pete Rose 4,192 9-11-1985” for the day when Rose broke Ty Cobb’s all-time hit record appears on the jersey’s right front tail. Mitchell & Ness with a size “XL” flag is located on the jersey’s inside collar. A Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Collection retail tag is attached to the inside collar. Rose signed and inscribed “Hit King 4256” with a blue marker on the chest of the jersey. The signature is bold and clear and the jersey is in pristine condition. The second item in this presented lot is a Cincinnati Reds jersey signed by Cincinnati Reds Big Red Machine leader and catcher, Johnny Bench. The 1968 NL Rookie of the Year won two World Series titles and was named the 1976 World Series MVP. Bench led the NL in home runs twice and was a three-time NL RBI leader. Bench was named to 14 All-Star teams and earned 10 Gold Glove Awards. Bench earned entry into Cooperstown on the first ballot in 1989. The polyester pullover jersey is white with red and white stripes on the sleeves and collar and features the iconic Reds “C” horseshoe with “REDS” in the middle in red and white tackle twill. The number “5” appears on the chest and back of the jersey in red tackle twill. A “National League Centennial 1876-1976” commemorating 100 years of the National League appears in red, white, and blue on the jersey’s right sleeve. A Mitchell & Ness MLB Cooperstown Authentic Collection manufacturing tag is located on the jersey’s left front tail. “1976” appears embroidered in red on the left front tail of the jersey in honor of Bench’s 1976 World Series MVP honor. A Mitchell & Ness MLB Cooperstown Authentic Collection retail tag is attached to a Mitchell & Ness manufacturing tag with a size “XL” flag located on the inside collar. Bench signed and inscribed the number “#5” on the chest of the jersey with a blue marker. The signature is bright and bold and the jersey features a light brown stain across the front. The third item in this presented lot is a Cincinnati Reds jersey signed by Hall of Famer Joe Morgan. Considered one of the best second baseman to play the game, Morgan won five Golden Glove Awards, was named the NL MVP twice, and won two World Series titles, and earned eight of his 10 All-Star selections while playing for the Big Red Machine. Morgan entered Cooperstown on the first ballot in 1990. The white polyester pullover jersey features red and white stripes on the sleeves and collar and the iconic Cincinnati Reds “C” with “REDS” appears on the chest in white-on-red tackle twill. The number “8” appears on the chest and back of the jersey in red tackle twill. A “NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTENNIAL 1876-1976” in red, white, and blue in honor of the 100th anniversary of the National League appears on the right sleeve of the jersey. A Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Authentic Collection manufacturing tag rests on the jersey’s left front tail. A Mitchell & Ness manufacturing tag with a size “L” flag is located on the jersey’s inside collar. Morgan signed and inscribed “HOF ’90 ‘Big Red Machine’” on the chest of the jersey in blue marker. The signature is bold and the jersey features a small red stain on the chest. The signed Cincinnati Reds jersey comes with a COA from Steiner Sports.
