Hall of Famer and New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle had a monster season in 1956 during a career that could best be described as remarkable. The 1956 season saw Mantle win the American League batting title, lead the AL in RBI and home runs, thus securing the coveted Triple Crown. If his owning all the American League’s batting titles wasn’t enough, Mantle was named to the All-Star Game and won the 1956 World Series with the Yankees as they defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in seven games. Mantle was also on the field when Hall of Famer Don Larsen pitched the only perfect game in World Series history, doing so during Game 5. It is no wonder that Mantle’s book was titled “My Favorite Summer 1956.”

Presented in this lot are a copy of “My Favorite Summer 1956” and a first edition Mickey Mantle comic signed by Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle. The 6 ¼ x 9 ½ -inch hard cover of Mantle’s book “My Favorite Summer 1956” is a collector edition and features a navy hard cover with an image of Mantle holding a bat labeled “MICKEY MANTLE MY FAVORITE SUMMER” across the top of his image in blue and red lettering. “MICKEY MANTLE & PHIL PEPE” appears on the bottom of Mantle’s image in white lettering. The image of Mantle on the cover is set against a Yankee navy and pinstripe background the number “1” on the top left corner, the number “5” on the bottom left corner, the number “9” on the top right corner, and the number “6” on the bottom right corner in baby blue. The number “7” appears on the bottom of Mantle’s image in blue. Mantle signed the bottom of the hard cover with a gold metallic paint pen. The signature is bold and the book is in excellent condition and comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09023) for the signature.

                The second item is a first-edition, 6 ½ x 10-inch Mickey Mantle comic. The comic debuted in December of 1991 and was published by Magnum Comics. The comic is labeled “NUMBER ONE OF A CONTINUING SERIES” on the top in black lettering. “MICKEY MANTLE” appears in red across the top of the cover of the comic. An image of Mantle holding a bat while standing on the baseball field features prominently on the cover of the comic. On the left side of the cover of the comic there is a yellow ribbon labeled “THE AMAZING YOUNG BOY FROM OKLAHOMA…TO TEENAGE STAR IN THE BIG APPLE” with an illustration of Mantle at the center. The bottom of the ribbon is labeled “ALSO…SPECIAL EXTRA FEATURE IN THIS ISSUE SIBBY SISTI SUPER SUB!!” Mantle signed the cover of the comic across his image with a blue marker. The signature is bold and the comic is in good condition and comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09022) for the signature.
