President Grover Cleveland holds the distinction of being the only president in United States history to serve two non-consecutive terms. The Democrat Cleveland served as the 22nd and 24th President and was known for his honesty, integrity, and was an effective leader who helped guide a developing nation as it dealt with the growing pains of labor disputes and depressions that often face an emerging economy and world power. Known for honesty, he sought to rid the federal government of corruption while reigning in spending, a conservative take that made him popular to some Republicans of the time. Cleveland became the only President to marry in the White House, taking Frances Folsom as his bride in 1886 during his first term in office.

This presented item is a typed 7 ¾ x10-inch letter to a E.B Griffiths, Esq, dated September 16, 1892. The letter addressed to Griffiths, the President Jefferson Democratic Association, to thank Griffiths for the copy of the resolutions adopted by the Jeffersonian Democratic Association of Lower Merion on August 22, 1892. Cleveland closed the letter by asking Griffiths to thank the members for naming him on their roll of honorary membership, which can be conveyed as a sign of their support during the election. Cleveland signed his name in black ink. The top of the typed letter is labeled “Not to be published” and was sent from “Gray Gables, Buzzard’s Bay, MASS” on “September 16, 1892.” The letter features a business card labeled “E.B.
