Super Bowl LI may go down as the greatest Super Bowl of all time! This game had everything. Drama – the largest comeback in Super Bowl history and the first ever overtime in Super Bowl history. Records – 30 team and individual records were broken and history – including the New England Patriots playing in their ninth Super Bowl; Bill Belichick becoming the first head to win five Super Bowls and quarterback Tom Brady, who became the first quarterback to win five Super Bowl titles and the first player to win four Super Bowl MVP awards as New England defeated Atlanta 34-28.
Presented here is what is possibly the original ring that was going to be made for legendary head coach Bill Belichick. While were not certain of its exact origin, the markings on this ring indicate that Belichick would have been the recipient. The ring at some point must have had some defect as there is not top, only the base of the ring that has had a hole drilled through, possible to avoid this from being counterfeited.
The left shank features “BELICHICK” and “COACH” in raised relief with an image of the lighthouse and bridge, the signature view of Gillette Stadium and accented with “5X” and the years of each New England Super Bowl victories “2016-14-04-03-01”. The right shank has in raised relief the “SUPER BOWL LI” logo, “NE 34”, “ATL 28” with the phrase “UNEQUIVACABLY THE SWEETEST” surrounding the Super Bowl LI logo, owner Bob Kraft’s postgame comment. Capping off the right shank is “17-2” the Patriot’s overall record counting the regular season and the playoffs. The inside of the ring has engraved in the center “WE ARE ALL PATRIOTS” with Bob Kraft’s signature (which is where the hole is drilled) and “2-3-2002”. Also engraved is “GREATEST COMEBACK EVER” and “JOSTENS 10K”. This ring is a size 11 and weighs approximately 69.54 grams.
