“Ben Casey” was a medical drama that aired on ABC from 1961 to 1966. The series, starring Vincent Edwards as Ben Casey, was best known for its opening titles that consisted of symbols written on a chalkboard with a voiceover intoning “Man, woman, birth, death, infinity” spoken by actor Sam Jaffe. This presented play hospital set was created by the Transogram Company who was known for creating the game “Tiddledy Winks” and “Green Ghost,” produced this play hospital set based off of the hit television show. The presented item comes in the original 18 x 15 ½ -inch box that features an image of Ben Casey labeled “Ben Casey, M.D. as portrayed by Vincent Edwards on ABC television” in white lettering. “TRANSOGRAM” appears across the top of the baby blue and green box in black. “BEN CASEY M.D. PLAY HOSPITAL SET” appears across the front of the open-paneled box and sides. The toy set includes a medicine chest with a baby, baby oil, a needle and microscope, a black doctor bag, doctor’s note pads, Johnson & Johnson gauze pads, and a stethoscope. The box is in fair condition and features some elements of cornering and edging.
