Opening Day Auction 2014

In the early days of baseball, the primary means of obtaining the much desired pre-season baseball information was from Official Baseball guides. Several companies, including Reach and Spalding, annually produced Guides, and Lajoie wanted to compound on his immense fame (he had won three batting title by 1906) by producing his own guides. However, his guides weren’t as popular as he was, and only three annuals were issued in years 1906-08 each containing a cover image of Lajoie. Here offered is a complete “set” of these scarce publishing marvels. Uniformly measuring 4-1/4” x 6-1/2”, these guides are all original with intact covers and containing all pages. Includes: 1906 – 256 pp., FR/GD with tape; 1907 – 288 pp., VG/EX with light covers tears and staining; 1908 – 284 pp., VG, with minor cover and spine issues. All these pages are replete with photos and statistics, as well as thorough profiles of Major and important minor league circuits and college teams – all punctuated with ads, some endorsed by current high-profile major league players. Nice grouping of these scarcely seen guides.
