Nice looking 1948 advertising card featuring Jackie Robinson endorsing Old Gold cigarettes. One of two poses (the other being a shot of him catching a ball), this tough to find 3 ½” x 5 ½” card can be considered as Robinson’s rookie card. The front has a shot of Jackie in the Dodgers’ dugout and a facsimile signature below reading “For a treat instead of a treatment… I recommend Old Gold Cigarettes. Jackie Robinson.” The reverse of the card has a four paragraph write up of Jackie’s career through 1947, mentioning his Negro League career and service in World War II. Besides being a hard to find issue from Robinson's early career, this ad card is accompanied by its rarely seen original paper envelope. The card displays well with some staining on the front and rounding to the corners. Back has a pencil notation in the upper left corner which has been partially erased. Envelope is toned with age and the glue has left a discoloration on the back folds. A very attractive rookie card of one of the game’s greatest figures.
