Winter 2014 Auction Closing Feb 7

The January 14, 1919 dated $10.50 check is made to G.O. Rambo, Jr. and is drawn on the Carnegie National Bank. Signed "Carnegie Home Defense Police J.H. Wagner Treas." The Carnegie Home Defense Police most likely was one of the civil guard units mustered to defend courthouses and bridges during the first world war. Wagner, being one of Carnegie's most prominent citizens, would have been tapped to be one of the unit's officers. The check is in very good condition, the signature is strong but has some bank cancellation holes. The check has been attractively matted in a 13" x 21 1/2" frame along with a 5" x 9" enlargement of Wagner's famous T-206 tobacco card portrait. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
