Opening Day Auction 2014

Lou Gehrig was one of the most sought after autographs of the 1920’s and 30’s. Many tales are told of Lou patiently signing every slip of paper handed to him by the eager boys who idolized him, and this well-loved paper scrap looks every part one of those things a young boy would have begged the Iron Horse to sign. The 2” x 4 ¼” paper has been clipped from a larger page and part of another signature is just visible above Lou’s. Signed in pencil, Gehrig’s classy script is light but none-the-less is visually appealing. The original owner noted his team “(YANKEES)” to the right of the signature and the back bears the notation of “New York July 26/35”, a day the Yankees beat the Senators 9-3 at Yankee Stadium, Gehrig going 1 for 3 with 2 walks and a run scored. The page has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA and graded Authentic.
