This cracked 34 inch, 34 ounce Worth block letter WC129 model bat was used by Don Mattingly during the 1990-95 labeling period. It shows tremendous evidence of game use with numerous stitch impressions and ball marks, with blue ink transfers and a heavy coat pine tar on the handle. On the knob is stamped his initial (DM), the length (4) and model number (WC129), and Joe DiMaggio’s retired number (5) is written in marker. Mattingly commonly used retired Yankee numbers on the knobs of his bats to deter their “disappearance”. Other known Mattingly bats have contained number of Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth. The sweet spot contains a bold, blue Sharpie “Don Mattingly” signature. All the above characteristics are represented by the player and factory records indicate this bat was ordered by the player during the referenced labeling period. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, graded GU 9, cert number E36628 for the bat.
