This pair of team photos exhibits a pair of amateur football teams from the early 20th Century. Both are likely from high school teams in Massachusetts, Dean High School in Holyoke, MA and Belmont Hill High School, Belmont, MA as this item originated in a major northeast collection. Includes: 1901 Belmont Hill HS – a 7.5 x 9.375 inch team photo with 13 members, dressed in mostly turtleneck type uniforms, almost all wearing contemporary shin guards. Affixed to an 11 x 14 inch original backing with light staining and rounding edge wear. Pinhole at top of mat; 1903 Dean HS – a 13.25 x 15 inch team phot with all 15 players in “full” uniforms. Team sweater in forefront with capital “D”. Affixed to an 18 x 22 inch original backing with water damage at top which affects the top portion of the photo, but none of the player images. The lower portion of the matting has “Dean Foot – Ball Team, ‘03” printed with team member names below. Major wear to matting including large chunk of lower left portion torn away. However, this could be matted out and would not affect the display feature of this fabulous vintage image. These two images are crystal clear and show the young men who were the foundation of the most popular game in pro sports today.
