Already established as one of the best catchers in the game, Gary Carter's trade to the New York Mets in 1985 was the final piece needed for the Mets rise to the top. Carter's leadership and big bat became readily apparent from his first summer in New York as he hit .281, 32 homers and an even 100 RBI. This bat dates from that first year with the Mets. The Louisville Slugger P89 is uncracked with excellent use. There is severe checking on the back of the barrel which has cause some of the wood to come loose and peel back. There is a slight coat of pine tar on the handle and bat rack paint streaks and various ball marks can be seen on the barrel. Carter's number "8" is handwritten on the knob end in black marker. The years since 1985 have given this Hall of Fame bat a very warm glow to the ash wood and the flame burned finish and dark stamping makes this a very attractive piece. PSA/DNA sticker 1B07420 is affixed to the knob end. Letter of Authenticity 1B07446 from PSA/DNA who have graded this bat GU 7.
