Pre-season spring training trips to the warmer south was begun to get a head start on the long regular season, allowing players to get in shape for the most grueling sports season of them all. It is also a great time to obtain autographs, as most players are readily available and willing signers. This 6 x 9.5 inch Miami Beach “Hotel Roselle” letterhead page contains 28 signatures of the 1941 New York Giants baseball team. Written on both sides, the signatures contain both blue and black steel tip fountain pen signatures and a few graphite pencil examples. Includes: Carl Hubbell, Hal Schumacher, Frank Demaree, Harry Gumbert, Ace Adams, John Wittig, Morris Arnovich, Babe Young, Bill Jurges, Mickey Witek, Ken O’Dea, Bob Bowman, Bob Carpenter, Red Lynn, Bill Lohrmann, Bill Terry, George Wyatt, Gabby Hartnett, Rae Blaemire, Mel Ott, Cliff Melton, Bobby Westfall, Bob Foxx, Johnny McCarthy, Tony Cuccinello, Joe Moore, Buster Maynard and Clyde Castleman. This signed hotel letter contains multiple folds, a few which intersect the signatures; however, none of the names are materially affected. These spring training items are always tremendous, as many very difficult and scarce signatures usually emerge from players who barely “had their cup of coffee” in the majors. This piece is not different with tough signatures of O’Dea, Blaemire and Foxx in addition to all the New York Giants regulars.
