This colorful lithograph print created by legendary New York Daily News sports cartoonist Bill Gallo celebrates the 1949 Subway Series between the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers includes illustrated depictions of Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio and Pee Wee Reese and conveys action from the series in unidentified drawings of a Yankees pitcher and Dodgers base runner wearing the number 49 on the back of his jersey. Gallo has also printed the names of all participants in the Series and the final scores of all five games. The 16” x 24” print is signed in bold blue sharpie by 23 players including: Ralph Houk, Charlie Sivera, Phil Rizzuto, Ralph Branca, Gene Hermanski, Paul Minner, Don Newcombe, Bob Ramazzatti, Carl Erskine, Eddie Miskis, Duke Snider, John Van Cuyk, Clarence Marshall, Tommy Byrne, Spec Shea, Hank Bauer, Duane Pillette, Dick Kryhoski, Jim Delsing, Jack Phillips, Dick Whitman, Pat McGlothin and Fred Sanford. The variety of signatures and Gallo’s classic style make this a one-of-a-kind piece for baseball art collectors. Signatures have been authenticated by PSA/DNA.
