Arguably no player made more memories at Yankee Stadium than baseball’s all-time greatest closer, Mariano Rivera. This unique signed Yankees home jersey from the 2008 season, the franchise’s last before moving to a new complex in 2009, features Rivera’s signature with “2008 Final Season at Yankee Stadium” below in bold, silver Sharpie on the back of his famed number “42” jersey along with several other inscriptions, including: “Team of the century” and “1999 WS MVP” on the “4” and “96, 98, 99, 00 World Series Champs,” “Last to wear #42,” and “2003 ALCS M.V.P.” on the “2.” The left sleeve of the jersey features a commemorative patch that reads “1923 2008” with the years separated by a home plate emblem and the words “Yankee Stadium” below. The image is of the entrance to Yankee Stadium from before 1976 when it was renovated. The patch is special in that it was the first time the team sported one for a full season since 2003. The left sleeve also features a black band in memory of pitcher Cory Lidle, who died in a 2007 plane crash. The right sleeve features another special patch, this one reading “MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL ALL-STAR GAME, N.Y.C., 2008” in honor of the Yankees playing host to the spectacle that year. The front tail of the size 52 jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” manufacturer’s tag. The rare jersey is authenticated by Steiner Sports Memorabilia and comes with their hologram sticker affixed to the item.
