In his typical fashion, Mariano Rivera pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts to secure a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners for his 26th save of the season and the 585th of his career at Yankee Stadium on July 26, 2011. Rivera’s ERA stood at 1.83 for the season and the Yankees remained two games behind the Boston Red Sox at the time but would go on to win the American League east division for the second time in three seasons and the 12th in the last 15. Rivera would go on to finish second in the AL with 44 saves. The MLB Authentic base (#FJ645328) was used from the sixth through the ninth inning of the game and is signed in bold black Sharpie by Rivera and shortstop Derek Jeter. The base contains inlaid alternating solid black and pinstripe New York Yankees logos on all four sides and is heavily soiled with both signatures written in bold black Sharpie over infield dirt. Jeter’s is written to the right of the Schutt and Hollywood Bases logos and Rivera’s is on the right with a “Save # 585” inscription. A manufacturer’s stamp contains the date May 18 2011 in the middle of the underside and the date “7-26-11” and “2nd” are written in fine line black Sharpie on the under corner above a Steiner Sports Memorabilia Game Used hologram #182641.
