In 1998 Greg Maddux went 18-9 with a 2.22 ERA, winning his fourth National League ERA title, allowing less than a runner on base per each of his 251 innings. However, teammate Tom Glavine won the NL Cy Young award despite having worse numbers across the board, but reached the coveted 20 win plateau. This “home” white, button down jersey was worn by Maddux during that 1998 season, specifically in that seasons All-Star Game played in Colorado, hence the white home jersey. It has “Braves” scripted across the chest underlined with the Braves Tomahawk. The lower front tail has the “Wilson” manufacturers tag with attached “44” size tag, with a small white strip tag below with the year “98” stitched in black thread. The verso has his name “MADDUX” across the back on a white name plate, with his number “31” below. The right shoulder features the All-Star Game patch and the jersey exhibits nice wear with some dirt staining on the front and general overall wear. This jersey derives from former major league pitcher Curt Schilling, and according to the LOA it “originated from my (Schilling’s) personal collection.” Maddux was the National League starting pitcher in this All-Star game, allowing three hits but no runs in two innings. Schilling was also a member of that NL All-Star team, but did not participate other than acquiring this jersey. Tremendous item from recent first-ballot Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, with impeccable provenance from Curt Schilling. While it is apparent that Schilling received the jersey from Maddux it is also likely that Maddux wore two jerseys in this game.
