After 18 years of meritorious service with 16 All-Star appearances, three MVP awards, one Triple Crown, 536 home runs and 1,509 RBI from 1951 to 1968, the New York Yankees gave Mickey Mantle his day and a plaque in Monument Park on June 8, 1969.
“When I walked into this stadium 18 years ago,” Mantle said in his speech that day, “I felt much the same way I do right now. I don’t have words to describe how I felt then or how I feel now, but I’ll tell you one thing, baseball was real good to me and playing 18 years in Yankee Stadium is the best thing that could ever happen to a ballplayer.”
“The Mick” signed these two 8” x 10” covers of the programs handed out that day which feature Mantle's number seven on gray over gray Yankees pinstripes on a what magazine cover with: “A Day To Remember” printed across the middle of the page with “Sunday, June 8, 1969 Yankee Stadium” running along the bottom. Mantles signature is in bold blue Sharpie under the headline on one of the programs and above it on the other. Lot has been pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
