This 6.5 x 9-7/8 inch game scorecard is from a 1939 New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers game. The cover of this “Official 10c Score Card” features the Bengal with “BRIGGS STADIUM” inside a baseball at the top. Once Yankee fan obtained his lucky 13 signatures (all pencil except DiMaggio) inside on the roster pages. Includes: Joe DiMaggio (very nice black fountain pen), Johnny Murphy, Buddy Roa, Jake Powell, Marius Russo, Bump Hadley, Babe Dahlgren, Monte Pearson, George Selkirk, Frank Crosetti, Joe Dugan, Oral Hildebrand and Arthur Fletcher. This item is a rare historic 1939 scorecard from Detroit's Briggs Stadium - from a game between the Detroit Tigers and Lou Gehrig's New York Yankees. Gehrig was revisiting the stadium where - on May 2 of that season - he said goodbye to his playing career and consecutive games streak.
The scorecard is from Aug. 27, 1939 - the day Red Ruffing recorded his 20th win of the season. It was the first game of a three-game series between the two teams - Gehrig's last series at Detroit's Briggs Stadium as the Yankees would not return again that season. Gehrig is still listed on the team's roster page, with his familiar No. 4.
Ironically, the scorecard is signed by his replacement at First Base - Babe Dahlgren. This great conversation piece comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA.
