In the early part of the 20th Century, large baseball premiums were very popular with fans, and now are very popular with collectors. These premiums were either available via mail for a group of coupons, or inserted as supplement within a newspaper or magazine. Most premium issues included all the greatest players of the day, and this small collection is very potent with premiums of Christy Mathewson, Lou Gehrig and several team images. Includes: 1) 1904 Burr McIntosh “The Champions” – fantastically scarce 1904 premium (5-3/8” x 10-7/8”) of the Boston first World Series Champions, issued without the standard three punch holes. Grades NM, and affixed to a slightly larger mount. 2) 1929 Philadelphia A’s – Classic Baseball Magazine premium (8.75” x 12”) featuring Foxx, Cochrane, Grove, Simmons and Mack. First champion of three straight World Series titles (EX/MT). 3) 1916 Brooklyn Robins – Baseball Magazine premium (9” x 12.75”) featuring Stengel, Marquard, Wheat and Robinson (GD). 4) 1920s Christy Mathewson – Baseball magazine premium (8.25” x 11.75”) featuring Mathewson follow through. Wavy cut on several sides (EX). 5) 1925 Lou Gehrig – Baseball Magazine premium is an actual magazine image (8.75” x 11.75”) of “Henry L. Gehrig”. Features ad for F.C. Lane’s classic book “Batting” on reverse. Several wrinkles and edge wear (VG/EX). Gehrig’s rookie year. 6) 1936 National Chicle #35 Hank Greenberg – a 3-1/4” x 5-3/8” black and white “fine pen” premium (VG/EX) with light wrinkling. 7) 1939 Wheaties Hank Greenberg – Series 12 panel (approx. 6” x 8”), with two clipped corners. Does not affect Greenberg image. Great collection of premium vintage premium issues with many of the greatest names ever to play the game. Total of seven items.
