Among only 43 comparably categorized examples recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just one copy has been placed at this impressive tier, and only three specimens have been graded higher. Here is an exceptionally clean example of a famous and widely coveted collectible.
This brightly colored T206 bears the misprinted caption that never fails to cause excitement. In bold block letters, the player's surname that should read "Magee" appears as "Magie." The offered copy presents more nicely than its assigned technical grade suggests, while displaying a favorable overall aesthetic with a beautifully clear and deep, olive green background. Its cardfront acknowledges only the mildest degree of corner erosion resulting from careful handling. The reverse sports a boldly inked advertisement. Both front and reverse aspects deliver remarkable quality in terms of eye appeal and, most importantly, the entire caption, including the "error," is crisply resolved and unmistakable. This rarity would be a suitable and desirable entry in any 1909-11 T206 White Border set. The always-elusive piece has long been one of the vintage-collecting industry's "Top 10" items with respect to value, and its acquisition confers automatic admission to an elite category of hobbyists.
