While highly regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Mickey Mantle was a three-sport star at Commerce High School. He was such a tremendous athlete as he was offered a football scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, and also played basketball. This approximately 8” x 10” original vintage photograph features his high school team, with Mickey sitting in the front row second from the left. Interestingly, each of the 10 players has a “double-digit” number with Mickey sporting No. 55. He also is wearing a jacket with the No. 8 on the left sleeve. The photo has a few crinkles, with a moderate lower right corner crease. It is extremely rare to see a “pre-rookie” image of one of the greatest baseball players of all time, let along one from a different sport. Tremendous image of a young, athletic Mickey Mantle.
