On March 1, 1969, at the beginning of Spring Training, Mickey Mantle announced his retirement in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This approximately 8” x 11” photo shows Mantle and manager Ralph Houk in street clothes, just prior to the official announcement. Mantle looks sad as he realized his body couldn’t play the game anymore at his level of expectation. Light edge creasing and two date stamps on verso.
