Presented here is a very beautiful circa 1930’s portrait of a smiling Lou Gehrig taken by famed Chicago photographer George Burke. Original Burke photos are highly sought after and this is a Type I photo, meaning it has been printed from the original negative within 2 years of the image being shot. The 4 x 6-inch image has a warm sepia coloration to it and is striking in and of itself, but it is pushed to a higher level by the gorgeous signature added by Gehrig. “Best wishes Ambrose Lou Gehrig” is flawlessly written in black fountain pen across his image on his chest. The back of this photo has “GEO. BURKE 647 BELMONT AVE. CHICAGO” stamped in red on the lower right corner. The top left corner has “265”, “A5” typed in black and the top center has typed “Lou Gehrig”. This photo is in excellent condition, displaying only edge and corner wear. This has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (84298651) as a Type I photo and Gehrig’s signature has been graded a GEM MINT 10! Additionally, there is a LOA from Beckett Authentication (A32752), who have also graded Gehrig’s signature a GEM MINT 10.
