Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry won his 300th career game in a Seattle Mariners uniform on May 6, 1982 hurling a complete game (at age 43!) victory over the New York Yankees. The size 11 Nike Spikes have Perry’s number “36” written on each heel and have been signed in blue ink “5-6-82 Gaylord Perry”, the day he won his 300th game. Interestingly, each shoe has a “Desert Shield – Desert Storm” cancelled stamp with postmark from “Cooperstown, NY, July 21, 1991” the date Perry was inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame. Accompanying these shoes is a letter on “Gaylord Perry Peanut Farm” letterhead reading “Ted: Thanks for your order. The 2 pair of shoes I used when I was playing for Seattle in 1982. Sincerely, Gaylord Perry” all in Perry’s own hand. The shoes show nice game use. While it is difficult to prove these were the shoes Perry actually wore during his 300th career victory, he did date the shoes from that game, and photos of that event indicate Perry did wear blue Nike spikes that day. LOA from JSA, cert number H18914.
