One of the most dominant pitchers of the 1960s, Sandy Koufax saw a marvelous season cut short due to an injury to his left index figure that many believe ultimately cost the Los Angeles Dodgers the National League pennant. Naturally, concerns arose around L.A. how Koufax would bounce back in 1963. It turned out the left-hander would be just fine. Koufax put together one of the best pitching seasons in Major League Baseball history, going 25-5 with a 1.88 ERA and 11 shutouts in leading the Dodgers to a World Series title. This signed March 4, 1963 edition of Sports Illustrated magazine shows Koufax on the cover gripping a baseball with that valuable left hand. Koufax signed the cover in bold, blue Sharpie on that left hand. The text on the cover reads “Spring training” and “SANDY KOUFAX TESTS THAT INDEX FINGER.” The magazine has an address label in the bottom left corner with “Sports Illustrated” across the top in red type and the date and “25 CENTS” in the upper right corner. The signed magazine comes with a certificate of registration from Online Authentics.
