By the time spring training rolled around in 1957, Mickey Mantle’s popularity was reaching an all-time high. The Bronx Bombers icon had just finished leading the Yankees to his fourth World Series title with the team following a seven-game win over the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956, a season which he won the triple crown. This signed March 4, 1957 edition of Sports Illustrated magazine features a shot of Mantle sprinting with blurred palm trees in the background and the cover title “THE REAL MICKEY MANTLE.” Mantle’s signature appears in bold, blue Sharpie on the left side of the cover just below “SPORTS ILLUSTRATED” and “1957 SPRING TRAINING,” which both appear in white type. The signed magazine has an address label in the bottom left corner with the date and cost (25 cents, $7.50 a year) in the top right corner. The signed magazine comes with a PSA/DNA LOA and certification number “K43401.”
