Opening Day Auction 2014

When Gil Hodges finished playing early in the 1963 season, he ranked third in career home runs among right handed hitters behind only Jimmie Foxx and Willie Mays. This heavily shellacked “Official Special league” baseball has been signed and inscribed on a side panel “To Bill Merry Christmas and Best Wishes Always Gil Hodges.” The handwriting is simply beautiful, appears to be in blue ink, and was penned at a time when players took pride in their signatures. Despite the heavy shellac, the quality of the inscription and signature are simply stunning, and displays beautifully. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
