Originally constructed to house the old Milwaukee Brewers minor league team in the American Association, Milwaukee County Stadium was also built to entice a major league franchise to relocate. In fact, the minor league Brewers never did play there, as the Boston Braves moved to Milwaukee prior to the 1953 season. They played in County Stadium until they again moved to Atlanta in 1966. The major league Brewers eventually settled there from 1970 until closing it out in 2000. This 22” x 28.5” x 28” chair was saved from the demolition. It features the No. “4” engraved on the seat back just above a plaque which reads, “GENUINE BOX SEAT MILWAUKEE COUNTY STADIUM, Milwaukee, WI April 6, 1953 – October 2000.” The seat is dark green, but areas of flaking reveal multiple colors underneath, and while shorter than most seats, it remains fee standing. Excellent relic from an historic stadium which saw Hank Aaron play his first major league home game, seven years to the day Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.
