Loaded with superstars of the 1990s and Kobe Bryant’s second-year card, Topps issued gold, silver and bronze versions of each base card that were short prints, not parallels. Each player’s card was given one of several different titles such as Catalysts, Finishers, Ballhawks, Masters, Arrivals, Force, Creators, Defenders, or Showstoppers (e.g. Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan). The base card parallel set included Silver refractors (serial-numbered to 1090) and Gold refractors (serial- numbered to 289). Topps issued two 106-card “Embossed” insert sets, a Refractor serial-numbered to 263 and an “Atomic” Refractor or unique Die Cuts serial-numbered to just 74. Error cards included those without serial numbers. Cards with the original sealed plastic coating are thought to be more valuable. Series 2 also contained the Rookie card of Ron Mercer.
