Presented here are two score cards from Boston Ball Club baseball games in 1877 and 1887. The first scorecard is likely from the September 4th contest between the Boston Red Caps and the St. Louis Brown Stockings. According to this scored scorecard, the Red Caps won 7-1 on their way to the franchise’s first ever National League pennant. Numerous Hall of Famers played for the 1877 Boston outfit, including the brothers Harry and George Wright, Deacon White, and Jim O’Rourke. The 21-year old Irishman Tommy Bond started 58 of the Red Caps 61 games, winning 40 and maintaining an ERA of 2.11. This scorecard has been written on extensively and scored with gray pencil. Save for a crease in the middle from folding, this relic from 1877 is in good condition.

The second scorecard is from a matchup between the Boston Beaneaters and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys on May 17th, 1887. The Beaneaters won this matchup 11-9, defeating the Hall of Famer and 363-game winner Pud Galvin. According to this scorecard, the Beaneaters earned their victory over Pittsburgh with a three-run ninth inning. Galvin and Beaneaters player-manager King Kelly were the two Hall of Famers involved in this game, however the legendary Charles “Old Hoss” Radbourn was available as a relief pitcher for Boston. This scorecard has been scored in gray pencil and is in good condition.
