Two of the greatest hitters of the 20th century reached the 3,000 hit mark during the 1990’s. George Brett reached the historic mark with four games to go in the 1992 MLB season, while Eddie Murray collected hit number 3,000 on June 30th, 1995 while playing for the Cleveland Indians. The first item in this lot is a ticket to Brett’s 3,000th hit game, a 4-0 road victory over the California Angels on September 30th, 1992. Brett went 4-5 in this game, recording his 3,000th career hit on his fourth hit of the night, a single off Tom Fortugno in the seventh inning. Brett has signed this ticket in blue marker, inscribing “#3000” in addition to his signature. The ticket has been encapsulated and authenticated by Beckett Authentication Services (9885122).
The second item in this lot is a seatback from the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome signed by Eddie Murray. Murray’s 3,000th hit came against the Minnesota Twins, on a sharp grounder to right field that fizzed out of the infield on the Metrodome’s turf. Murray has signed this blue seatback in silver marker, inscribing “My 3000th Hit” and drawing a diagram of the milestone knock. This seatback, numbered “3”, comes with a COA from Beckett Authentication Services (G15670).
