Willie Randolph grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School, where he was a star athlete and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 7th round of the 1972 draft. He made his Major league debut in 1975, and was, at age 21, the sixth-youngest player in the National League.  As an 18-year-old Randolph played in 121 games in Single A for the Charleston Pirates of the Western Carolina’s League.  One of the three baseballs in this lot is a Western Carolina League baseball and it has been signed by 15 players including a very young Willie Randolph and Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm who in 1973 was coaching for the Greenwood Braves of the Western Carolina League.  The other two baseballs in this lot Pirates Logo baseballs dating to Randolph’s first season in the Major Leagues in 1975.  The balls consist of 23 and 24 signatures and both include Hall of Famer Willie Stargell as well as Stars like Dock Ellis, Manny Sanguillen, Al Oliver, Ken Brett, Duffy Dyer and both feature a rookie Willie Randolph.  The baseballs come from the collection of Willie Randolph, and all display toning with signatures of various degree of conditions as presented in the photographs.  The signatures have been pre-certified by Beckett Authentication.
