Oakland Athletics speedster Rickey Henderson wore these items during the early 1980’s, in the early days of his career. Included in this lot are a jersey, a pair of pants, and a pair of cleats. During the early 1980’s, Henderson was baseball’s premier base stealer, leading the American League in stolen bases 12 times and setting the modern record with 130 stolen bases in the 1982 season. This jersey is from 1983, when Henderson hit .292 and led baseball with 108 stolen bases. The pants are from 1984, when Henderson hit .293 and stole 66 bases, leading the American League. Henderson would go on to become the all-time leader in stolen bases and an inductee in the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2009.

 

The jersey offered in this lot is gold, with “HENDERSON” sewn across the back shoulders in green tackle twill. Henderson’s number “35” is sewn on the back of this jersey in green and white tackle twill. “OAKLAND” is sewn across the chest in green and white tackle twill. Also included in this lot are Henderson’s white Mizuno cleats. The cleats have a green and white Mizuno logo on each side, with a Mizuno wordmark on the back of each cleat and a Mizuno tag sewn on each tongue. Henderson has signed the heel of each cleat in blue marker. The final item in this lot are Henderson’s white home pants. The pants have a green-yellow-green waistband with green-yellow-green striping running down each leg. A Wilson size “31” tag and a “84 31 28 ½ 35” swatch are sewn on the back inside waistband. This lot comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication, a LOA from JT Sports, and individual COAs from Beckett Authentication Services.
