Despite all of his exhaustive research, Jefferson Burdick was apparently never introduced to elements of this felt issue. Featuring baseball subjects of yore, we estimate that they appeared contemporaneously with the great cascade of tobacco cards in the early 20th Century. Measuring about 1 ΒΌ x 4 inches, this group of six felts out of 29 issued features renderings of Nap Lajoie on green felt, three of Ira Thomas on red, green, and orange felt, and one of Hary Lord on green felt and one of George McBride on blue felt. The illustrations are applied similar to those appearing on standard pennants and set against soft swatches of green or blue. By last name only, the players are identified in an ersatz scroll, and a measure of sophistication is added in team logos on the jerseys. Because these felts are uncatalogued in the A.C.C., it naturally follows that their distribution was meager, at best. And such is fairly affirmed in that these appear to have been hand-cut...their edges being detectably inexact. These felts were likely not tobacco-related, and we'd sooner imagine that they were distributed by some other consumer good. The group of six BF-UNC Felts featuring Hall of Famer Nat Lajoie are historic specimens that helped kick off the hobby as we know it.

Lot of (6) 1912 BF-UNC Felts - Including a Nap Lajoie!
