Offered in this lot is a collection of eight items of memorabilia from the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics originating from the personal memorabilia collection of USWNT legend Michelle Akers. Akers led the United States to gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games in the inaugural women’s soccer competition, defeating a formidable China team 2-1 in the gold medal game. The first item in this lot are the blue Champion sweatpants worn by Akers on the podium after winning gold. Akers has signed these pants in silver marker, inscribing “1996 Olympic Gold Podium Sweats”. Also included in this lot are four signed tickets - three are for the Closing Ceremonies and one is for the gold medal game between the United States and China. Akers has signed the tickets in black marker, inscribing “My Ticket To Closing Ceremonies” on one. On all three Closing Ceremony tickets, Akers has inscribed “96 Olympic Gold Medal”. The next signed item is one of two credentials included in this lot. Akers signed the credential in black marker, inscribing “Olympic Gold Medalist” below her signature.
Other items in this lot include a certificate of achievement from the IOC and a bag of field grass from the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics gold medal match at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. A gold sheet signed by Akers in black marker is included as well. This collection of items comes with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
