Offered in this lot is a United States Women’s National Soccer Team zip-up jacket worn and signed by the two-time World Cup winner Michelle Akers. The former University of Central Florida star earned over 150 caps for the United States, leading the Stars and Stripes to gold in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics in the inaugural Olympic women’s soccer tournament. In 1985, Akers scored the first goal in national team history during a match against Denmark. At the time of her retirement, Akers ranked second in USWNT history in both goals and caps. In 2000, Akers was named the FIFA Woman co-Player of the Century along with China’s Sun Wen. This offered jacket is manufactured by Nike, with a white and navy Nike swoosh sewn on the left chest. A “US National Team” patch is sewn on the back of the size “L” jacket. Akers has signed the jacket in silver marker above the patch, inscribing “#10” and “USA” after her signature. This jacket comes with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
