New York City was treated to a “Subway Series” to determine the World Series winner in 2000, as the Mets took on the Yankees in that year’s Fall Classic. The Yankees would prevail in five games, ending the Mets wonderful season. After finishing 94-68, the Mets ran over the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals (going a combined 7-2) to win the NLCS. Mike Piazza (.324 average, 38 home runs, 113 RBI) and Edgardo Alfonzo (.324, 25, 94) provided the big bats while 34-year-old Al Leiter (16-8 record, 3.20 ERA) and Mike Hampton (15-10, 3.14) anchored the pitching rotation. Closer Armando Benitez recorded 41 saves, striking out 106 batters in 76 innings.

Featured here is a 2000 New York Mets National League Championship Jostens 14K ring personally owned by Rusty Staub, a member of the Mets from 1972-1975 and 1981-1985. The Mets “NY” logo, made up of small diamonds, centers the face of the ring and sits atop a large black stone. “2000 NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS” appears in relief work around the bezel setting, with four additional diamonds (positioned in the corners) separating the words. The left shank displays the name “STAUB” along with his number 10, and an image of the New York City skyline that sits between the words “AMAZIN’ AGAIN” and the Mets script logo. On the other side are the National League logo and the words “Subway Series” with images of two subway cars. Also present are pennants boasting the years 1969, 1973, 1986 and 2000. Engraved inside the band is “Daniel ‘Rusty’ Staub” and it includes 14K and company marks. This ring is sized to an approximate 10 and weighs approximately 38.5 grams. This item comes with a LOA from Rusty Staub.
