Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg was one of the premier stars of the 1980s, playing all but 13 of his 2,164 games with the Chicago Cubs. Few expected the Philadelphia Phillies 20th round pick of the 1978 MLB Draft to make a splash in the Majors, but Sandberg used true five-tool prowess to a 16 season career that saw him make 10 All-Star teams.

Sandberg truly announced himself to the baseball world in 1984, his third full season with the Cubs. “Ryno” earned the National League MVP award for his all-around excellent season, leading the league in runs (114) and triples (19). He showed some pop in ’84, legging out 36 doubles while hitting 19 home runs. In addition to these big numbers, the nine-time Gold Glove Award winner managed to swipe 32 bases while maintaining a .314 batting average.

Sandberg, along with midseason acquisition and National League Cy Young Award winner Rick Sutcliffe, led the Cubs to a rare postseason appearance in 1984. The Cubs faced Tony Gwynn and the San Diego Padres in the National League Championship Series. Although the Cubs fell three games to two, Sandberg played well, maintaining a .368 batting average and knocking in two runs.

Several years after retiring, Sandberg was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He received 76.2% of the vote, enough to permanently enshrine the second baseman in Cooperstown. This Rawlings glove is made of tan leather with a basket web. The wrist band is gold, an honor bestowed upon Gold Glove Award winners. A red Rawlings logo is stitched near the thumb. “Sandberg” is written in green marker along the thumb slot. This glove shows good evidence of use. Sandberg signed the top of the glove in black marker. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC01273).
