Offered is the first issue of the Marvel Comics adaptation of “Star Wars” featuring a script by Roy Thomas and art by Howard Chaykin. This comic book, cover dated July 1977, is part one of the Marvel Comics six-part adaptation of the first “Star Wars” film, now known as “Star Wars: A New Hope.” The film was written and directed by George Lucas.
A noted comic book fan, Lucas and his team offered Marvel Comics the rights to publish a comic book adaptation of the upcoming film prior to is release in May 1977. Thomas was then Marvel’s top writer and editor, and he assigned up-and-coming artist Chaykin to do the artwork. This issue originally went on sale on the nation’s news stands on April 12, 1977, pre-dating the release of the film by one month. The cover is by Chaykin with inks by Tom Palmer. This comic book has been graded and encapsulated by CGC and is graded NM/MT 9.8 (0196621028).
