Arthur Miller’s ubiquitous series “A Baseball Card That Never Was” revisits baseball’s early days with this depiction of the Hall of Fame ace Walter Johnson. This artwork is a mixed media on canvas. Specifically, the mixed media is acrylic enamel house paint, oil pastels and colored pencils and sealed with varnish. It portrays the Senators mainstay as he might have appeared in the 1951 Bowman trading card series. Johnson is painted from the chest up, looking sharp in the Senators pinstriped home uniform and block “W” cap in front of a green background. This canvas artwork measures 40 x 26 inches, with Miller’s signature located on the upper corner. Located on the back of the canvas is “A Baseball Card That Never Was: Walter Johnson (1951 Bowman)”, “2018”, and a second Miller signature. This artwork is a fantastic display piece of baseball’s greatest righty.
