One of the biggest selling artists in the history of music, Michael Jackson helped define the 1980’s with his music as well as his signature dance moves. During that decade alone, the King of Pop sold more than 110 million records. MJ’s 1987 release, Bad, is the 2nd biggest selling album of the decade, outsold only by Jackson’s 1982 smash Thriller, itself the biggest selling album of all-time. His music videos helped launch MTV, and his world tours were spectacle on the grandest scale.
This impressive piece, the Platinum Record Award naming Michael Jackson as Artist of the Decade for the 1980s, is #106 of a Limited Edition of 1,000. The Platinum Record is mounted with Jackson’s image in the center, with a small silver plate detailing Jackson’s highlights and sales figures from the decade. Also included are mini-album covers of Jackson’s 3 releases that sold significant amounts in the 1980s (Off the Wall, released in 1979, Thriller in 1982, Bad in 1987), all beneath the title “Artist of the Decade”. Michael Jackson’s name runs vertically up the left side in blue lettering, and there is a golden figure of Jackson in one of his famous dance moves. Finally, included is a hand-signed and numbered certificate from Michael Jackson himself, which reads, ”I, Michael Jackson, certify that this limited edition award is official and hereby cause my hand to sign this Platinum Limited Editions Award.” Item comes with an LOA from JSA.
