In 1979 the Alabama Crimson Tide demolished the SEC and the rest of college football en route to a 12-0 record and a unanimous national title. The Crimson Tide defeated Arkansas 24-9 in the season ending Sugar Bowl, capping off a season in which they trailed only twice.
This football has been signed by over 50 members of the ’79 Tide, including head coach and College Football Hall of Famer Paul “Bear” Bryant. Other signatures include Jim Bunch, Bobby Smith, Ken Donahue (signed twice), Mal Moore, Steadman Shealy, Robbie Jones, Mike Pitts, Bryant Pool, Alan McElroy, Sylvester Croom, Buddy Aydelette, George White, Laurence Brown, Ricky Rozell, Tom Spencer, Major Ogilvie, Billy Jackson, Tommy Wilcox, Jackie Cline, Jeff Rouzie, Scott Homan, Joe Beazly, Ricky Tucker, John Hill, Scott Allison, Jack Rutledge, Charley Thornton, Keith Marks, Jim Bob Harris, Mike O’Toole, Buddy Holt, Roy Rumbley, and many more. The signatures on this gold and white commemorative football were written in black pen and Coach Bryant’s signature is the most prominent, appearing just below the laces and above the “Rawlings” wordmark.
