The 2017 season was supposed to be a rebuilding season for the most storied franchise in baseball history – the New York Yankees. With veteran players at the end of their expiring and expensive contracts, the Yankees were building for the future. Fortunately, for the Yankees, the message didn’t get to rookie sensation Aaron Judge. In what may be considered one of the greatest rookie seasons of all-time, Judge set a then-Major League rookie single-season home run total – 52, which also led the American League. Judge was narrowly edged out for AL MVP by Jose Altuve.
Not only were Judge and the Yankees not in rebuilding mode, they made the playoffs as a Wild Card and were within one game of reaching the World Series – losing out to the eventual champion Houston Astros.
Offered is the very jersey worn by Judge for the September 28th game of his historic 2017 season against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium when he connected for his 51st home run of the 2017 season and 55th career home run. As expected with a player the size of Judge, this Majestic FlexBase button-down home white with pinstripes jersey is a size 52. The iconic interlocking “NY” is sewn on in navy tackle twill on the upper left chest. Judge’s “99” is sewn on the back of the jersey in the same navy tackle twill. A vinyl MLB logo patch in navy blue, white and gray is sewn on the upper back neck. The bottom front left tail has the screen-printed Majestic size 52 FlexBase tag. Below the Majestic tag is a New York Yankees barcode tag (0000008711) and vertically along the buttons is an additional Majestic screen-printed tag that reads "2017 52T +2 B". As with the new FlexBase models, a white mesh section is attached to the bottom back tail. The left sleeve has a one-inch thick black armband in memory of longtime Yankee Gene “Stick” Michael, who passed away on September 7th. The jersey displays light use with some stains above the interlocking “NY” and on the left sleeve by the armband and comes with a full LOA from Steiner Sports (272290), along with an MLB Authenticated hologram (JC009292) authenticating that Judge wore this jersey for the September 28th game. Additionally, this jersey has been photo matched by Sports Investors Authentication to the September 28, 2017 game and an LOA will accompany this item.
